Message from the Principal

Geelong Grammar School is dedicated to education that can transform a child's experience of the world.

- Stephen Meek (Principal).

Our School

Geelong Grammar School is an independent Anglican coeducational boarding and day school. Established in 1855, the school has built an international reputation as a pioneer of modern education, reinforced through the recent introduction of Positive Education, a transformational approach to learning developed from the science of Positive Psychology. As Australia’s largest coeducational boarding school, Geelong Grammar provides a unique learning and living environment, spread across five distinct campuses. The school’s philosophy of education is dynamic and continuous, from our early learning centres to Year 12. Our rigorous academic programs create wonder, curiosity and a desire to learn.

Positive Education

We developed Positive Education from the science of Positive Psychology in collaboration with Professor Martin Seligman and his team from the University of Pennsylvania. Positive Education focuses on cultivating positive emotions and character traits, encouraging our students to find purpose and lead engaged and meaningful lives. It is taught at each year level, at every campus and across all aspects of school life.

Curriculum

Geelong Grammar School offers a dynamic and flexible curriculum from Early Learning through to Year 12. The School’s two early learning/primary campuses, located in Toorak and Geelong, provide the building blocks for a love of learning. The Toorak Campus was the first school in Victoria to introduce the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Dedicated classroom teaching of the school’s revolutionary Positive Education program begins at our Middle School campus. Timbertop, the school’s remote Year 9 campus located in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, is an exceptional educational adventure that provides students with the opportunity to experience a demanding academic program alongside a challenging outdoor education stream. Senior School students have the choice of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma for entry into tertiary study. The academic results of our Year 12 students, 18.3 per cent of whom were in the top 5 per cent of the state in 2011, are testament to the first-class teaching and facilities at each of our five campuses.

Co-curricular activities

Geelong Grammar School offers more than 100 co-curricular activities, from drama, dance and debating to cooking, community service and environmental projects. The school has a proud sporting tradition and offers a wide spectrum of sporting pursuits, including rowing, AFL, rugby, soccer, athletics, sailing, swimming, equestrian and tennis.

Pastoral Care

Our focus is on developing students spiritually, emotionally and physically as well as academically — helping them discover and develop their strengths so that they can strive for success and lead engaged and meaningful lives. Geelong Grammar is recognised as the leading school in Australian coeducational boarding, preparing students for the dynamic of the modern world through enabling boys and girls to live and learn alongside each other.
